A Grand Time

Eight months...to quote a line from one of my Dad's favorite commercials, "Well that's too long."  It was too long and we were so glad when the day finally came that we got to pick up Grandma and Grandpa from the airport.  We were ready to "play, play, play!" as Peanut put it and I think we packed as much fun as possible into our time together. Here is a pic I snapped right before Peanut took off on his first night hike.  It was approaching 7 when they left and quite "dusky" when they returned.  He was so excited as Mom and Dad had sent him a book about a little boy who goes on a night hike with his Grandpa.  Peanut told me that they spotted several wild animals on their hike and he even heard an owl...(that may or may not have been digitally provided by Grandpa's phone.) Smile.
Easter and bunnies are favorites for both Peanut and Grandma Sharon and they had so much fun with this sticker book she brought.
Friday night we had beautiful weather and a great grill out with both sets of grandparents.  What a treat for us all!  I was having so much fun relaxing and talking on the deck that I forgot to get a picture.  Saturday morning we surprised Peanut with an early birthday gift.  Since Mom and Dad have never been able to attend a birthday party we thought we'd share the fun of the surprise and it was a hit!  We provided the tank and décor and Grandma and Grandpa bought the fish.  Thanks Mom and Dad, he loves them.
We always had a fish tank growing up and I knew Mom would be a huge help setting it up and getting us off to a good start.  I was right and here she is with Peanut cleaning the gravel.  They were laughing and both ended up pretty wet!
We got some guppies and a catfish that Hayden named "Crummer" because he cleans the tank, i.e. picks up all the "crumbs".  I love the sound of the water and its so relaxing to watch.
I was so pleased that Sister was so immediately comfortable with Mom and Dad.  By the time we got home from the airport she was ready to be snuggled and kissed by all!

On Sunday night we attended our friend Rocco's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese.  Having Grandma and Grandpa there made it even more special for Peanut and much easier for me!
The rest of the time we had together was spent just enjoying being together.  We went to McDonalds playplace one day, library story time another, and played a lot at home.
A ping pong tournament in the basement.  Peanut doesn't even have to stand on a stool anymore...sniff sniff...
 A nature walk...
Mom and Dad are so great at planning creative things to do with the kids.  They attended a kite festival back home and made Peanut a paper kite that he got to decorate himself.  He colored a bird on it and here he is flying it out in the back yard.
I think one of my favorite memories is watching Grandpa Chuck and Peanut play archaeologist with the Dinosaur Dig kit Peanut got for Christmas.
They started out with a clay block and after digging, washing, and piecing together, they had a dinosaur skeleton!
I love this picture.  They were playing horse races in the basement when I took it.
Dad and Sister had fun getting to know each other this trip and playing chase.  Sister also learned to copy Grandpa's laugh which made us all chuckle!
The big boys competition...we don't get this table out enough but we all have fun when we do!

When Grandma Sharon is here she is in charge of bath and bedtime stories.  Peanut loves it and it's a nice break for me.  Thanks Mom!
It was such fun to have them with us and I savor each moment.  We are anxious to pick up where we left off this fall.  Love you Mom and Dad and thanks for all the fun!

Have a great week friends and family!

Egg-Stravaganza!

I have such vivid memories of last Easter being Sister's first...she couldn't even hold her head up and just a year later here she is hunting eggs with the "big kids".  She watches her brother like a hawk and with a little encouraging she was soon collecting eggs for her basket.
I have to say that this time of year is when I miss Texas the most.  Growing up we were always hunting in green grass with dainty Easter dresses and strappy sandals.  Here...not so much.  But the kids don't know the difference and at least it's not snowing this year!
We asked Peanut to help carry Sisters basket before the hunt began and he was so sweet pointing to the eggs and telling her, "That's what you go get."
She wore the ears for exactly long enough for me to get this pic but not to straighten the ears.  Although they are alike in many ways, she and her brother are the opposite when it comes to headwear.  Give Peanut a hat, headband (he loves mine), bandana, rabbit ears or pretty much anything and he will wear it proudly.  Sister does not like anything on her head and she will let you know in no uncertain terms!
 Convening to divide the loot.
The next morning was Easter and we had our regular breakfast at home and then while Best and the kids were relaxing upstairs in the master bedroom with some Curious George, I discovered a tuft of rabbit fur stuck in the door!
We went downstairs and there was a basket for each at the table...
Peanut was determined to blow this giant balloon up but in the end Dad had to provide the lung power!  Once that was done we started hunting for eggs.  The Easter bunny hid them in some pretty tricky spots but we found them all!
Sister got some yummy strawberry yogurt drops and animal cookies!
Peanut had informed me that the Easter bunny might put an "H" on his eggs and a "B" on sisters so they would know whose they were.  I thought this was a great idea and lo and behold that is what that smart bunny did!
I know they will be my cute little bunnies forever, but I can't imagine a cuter combination of ages than 1 and 3.  Pure joy these two!

After we had finished collecting the eggs we noticed another tuft of rabbit fur stuck in the door to the entry closet!  What?!!! This bunny was pretty generous and these two were so happy with their gifts.
Hope you had a special Easter too!  Have a great week friends and family.
