Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day was a bit rainy and chilly here, but we made it to the parade anyways...Small town parades are great because there is less traffic and walking to get a good spot!  Peanut had so much fun with his flag and was so happy to tell everyone "Happy Memorial Day".  He even called Papa and left him a voice mail.  Papa is a veteran and we are so proud of his service.
Waiting for the parade to start.  The mayor came over to greet Peanut which was pretty cool.
The marching band was his favorite part.

After the parade we headed to Memorial Park to hear the annual Memorial Day address and remember the lives of those lost in battle.
After the morning's festivities we headed home for nap and then to a friend's barbeque.  We had to move the party inside due to rain, but they have an awesome playroom and we had a blast.  Hope you had a great long weekend too!

Mother's Day Roughing It

We went camping Mother's Day weekend.  I had looked forward to going back since we left last September.  We don't really rough it...we don't hunt or fish or set up tents...but that's ok because we are still away , but together.  Here is Peanut as soon as I let him out of the car.  He was quickly headed right for the cabin!
And here is Best unloading while I take pictures...thanks honey.
Our little home for the weekend.  This year we upgraded to a two bedroom and it was so much fun to have the extra space.

So cool that there is a sandbox right behind the cabin.  Peanut got to test out his new beach toys he won at the Easter egg hunt a few weeks ago.
Really concentrating on his work.

Love that cape.  He is pretty super.
Baseball practice.  Something about watching them do this almost makes me want to cry it's so sweet.  But I have been told there is no crying in baseball...or hockey. Smile.

This is Yesper.  A little friend Peanut met that was staying in the cabin next to us.  Peanut was so happy to share his toys.
At the playground.  I love this place.  It has just enough camping feel with the added bonus of lots of activities and animals...there is even a water park and mini golf!
We opted to wait til Peanut was safely asleep to have our campfire.  It was one of my favorite times that weekend.  Best and I talked and laughed and roasted marshmallows and even made popcorn over the fire.  I'm so glad he is my best friend.

And the next morning we woke up to these delightful waffles.  Tropical waffles with coconut and they were so good.  Best whipped them up and we loved them.

It was colder than we would've liked on Saturday but we got out for a bit...

And then we opted for some indoor fun nearby.  We don't like to miss a Children's museum you know!
The grocery store is always a fave for Peanut.  He was so cute and thanked the checker.
Future engineer?
This would be fairly easy to make and hours of learning and fun!
I feel like I have to take a picture when I see one of these...

Best feeding "Duece".

There was also a peacock that of course only displayed her feathers the one time I didn't have a camera..you'll just have to trust me and use your imagination!
So unfortunately Sunday was even colder.  I was looking forward to spending the day at the state park and picnicing with my boys...but mother nature did not cooperate.  We went ahead and went to the park and did a few bubbles for Peanut, but then headed back home earlier than we'd planned.

My baby and I on Mother's Day.  I am so lucky to have him.

And here is a quick little family pic we took in the cabin before we packed up.

Cold or not, it was a great trip.  I reminded myself that this was not our last, and that it didn't matter if we had to do a little more indoors than we'd planned because we were together.  And that's the whole point.  Forgetting about everything and everyone else for a bit and just nuturing our little family.  I love us....and you.  Have a great week friends and family!

Farm Babies

Our zoo has a special farm babies exhibit each spring.  It is in April because well, April is warm and sunny right?  Uh...not this year!  Thank goodness the zoo was nice enough to extend the exhibit one extra week so we didn't miss out. Even if we had to go Monday morning before swimming lessons.  Whew!  Had a long nap that afternoon.

OHHH He loves them so much he wanted to kiss every one!  Thank goodness I'm not too paranoid about germs, although I did encourage him to "just pet, no kisses please".  Peanut might grow up to be a very good farmer.
I don't guess rabbits bite?  If they did I feel certain we would have found out...smile.
More kissing!  I just love the affection.  Even if it is for a giant fake pig.
Peanut got so excited and loved the squeals from these baby pigs.
Looks like someone's getting stepped on...better get in position on time!
Hi random photo bomber...which is probably what the other mom is saying about Hayden.. ha ha
We will be back to the zoo many times this summer and I plan on taking a few trips with camera, and a few without.  We may even attempt to go to the bird show again.  Maybe it will be less scary now that it's outside.  Have a great week friends and family!
PS There will be a blog about our Mother's Day weekend camping trip coming soon...just have some other "irons in the fire" that need to be tended to today. :-)

On the Fly

Last Friday Best got up at the wee hour of 4am to leave for his business trip and I kind of remember his goodbye, but I was pretty sleepy.  I was feeling like a good wife though, since I remembered to set the coffee to go off early for him...until I realized later that I had set it for 4 PM!  Ha!  I asked him about it and he said he had some so he must have just pushed the brew button...said he was so tired he didn't remember.  Funny how we just run on auto pilot sometimes.  So just as I was probably falling back into a deep sleep Peanut wakes up at 5:50 am!  He never does that.  I mean he is always good til at least 6:45 or 7, lots of times later.  Must have been a bad dream because he was so upset and told me he needed to rock.  So we did.  And we sang and read stories and he was happy in no time, ready for his breakfast.  I looked at the weather that morning and realized it was going to be really nice out so I threw together a lunch for Peanut and I and we headed out to the Arboretum.  We were there at 8:15 am.  I was proud of us considering it is 40 mins away, I decided to go around 7, and I actually remembered everything we needed.  Great day and we just soaked up the sun and walked miles.  And played.  It is just a great place.

We started on 3 mile drive, but then opted for a longer route.  It was just too beautiful not to.  I love the way the sun makes the leaves glow.
Curious animals scurried about.  I know they were happy to see the sun as well.
And here is Peanut's favorite place.  The little house in the woods.  Actually there are two and he runs back and forth, in and out, yelling and dancing. Smile.

This was as close as they would let us get.  I was impressed at their bravery when Peanut started talking to them.  They must've seen he was buckled in.

And here he is about to do a cartwheel.  No, I'm joking.  But it does look just like that, doesn't it?
I must say that I am a little dissapointed as I finish writing this post.  You see, I started it the afternoon we took our little trip to the Arboretum.  It was a week ago.  The beautiful weather stayed with us until yesterday and then it just went to heck!  I just could barely believe it when the snow started falling on May first!  But I am seeing the sun again today and the promise of more to come.  We will make the best of it, we always do.  I like to sing Peanut the song "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine."  My family is really all I need to be happy, but a little sun sure would be a bonus! Have a great weekend friends and family!
