First Skate

I knew the day was coming, just didn't think it would be so quickly!  Best decided it was time for Peanut to put his skates in contact with something other than the carpet.  I trust him completely and thankfully so does Peanut.  It was an exciting day for all of us.  Peanut has been referring to himself as a hockey player for a long time now, but that day I think he really felt like it.  September 28, 2013: 2 years 3 and 1/2 months old...his maiden voyage!

 

 Waiting on the bench for Dad.  I honestly think he was excited but a little nervous.  He was a bit quieter than usual.  Each time I asked (which was more than once) he assured me he wanted to try it.  So proud of him.

 Best was so gentle and slow with him.  Helping him steady and asking him how he was doing.  He is a great coach as well as a great dad so it is really a winning combination.

 Grandmas don't panic, this is what we call a "controlled fall".  Smile.

 He actually has another long sleeved winter shirt on under his jersey, but they both kept coming up.  Next time we will get  longer shirts, but he really wanted to wear that jersey!

 Each time he came over he would say "hi Mom", but he was pretty wide eyed.  He wasn't scared, but I think he was really surprised at how much different it is from our usual indoor hockey games!

 I think it's so funny to see him on the ice with a diaper sticking out of the back of his pants.

 This is a sort of walker to help kids learn to skate.  They tried it but Best said Peanut did not like it.  I think he just feels more safe with Dad.  I don't blame him.

 As soon as he said he was all done Best helped him off the ice.  We want him to have fun and not burn out.  All together he was probably out there 5-10 minutes.  Plenty for a first day.  Besides, there was hot pizza waiting in the lobby.

I want to thank my wonderful husband for being such a patient teacher.  I know he is excited for Peanut to follow in his footsteps as a hockey player, but I truly feel that his first priority is for Peanut to enjoy what he's doing.  I will just keep snapping pictures, washing stinky hockey clothes, cheering from the bleachers, and storing all the precious memories in my heart.

Dock of the Bay

Last Saturday we took Peanut on his first fishing trip.  Best's boss lives on the lake and was kind enough to let us use his dock.  This is the same boss who showed up at our door one night with a bat, ball, and t-stand for Peanut.  He is a great guy.  

To say they have a nice backyard would be an understatement.  Here is a glimpse of it as Best and Peanut head for the dock.

I really had nothing to do with the fishing...my job was to watch Peanut when Best was baiting the hook and take pictures.  Peanut was very interested.  He listened to his Daddy and Best is so patient with him.  I bet this won't be their last fishing trip. Smile.

Maybe it is just a pregnancy thing, but the whole time I kept thinking, "I wish I had some gummy worms."  Turned out the fish might've been thinking the same thing as we didn't get one bite!

Regardless of the poor fish turnout, we had fun.  Peanut saw a hose in the water that was running to one of the boats and was convinced it was a snake so that pleased him.  When asked about the trip he will tell you "I didn't (catch any fish) but I saw a snake."

 And as I mentioned, their backyard is huge and beautiful so we had fun running and playing while Best worked vigilantly to hook a big fish!  The next expression is Peanut telling a joke.  When I ask him to tell me a funny joke he just laughs insanely....funny stuff.

This is my favorite picture from the day.  It will be in the mid 90's all this week, a little hot for this pregnant lady, so I'm glad we had our outdoor outing when we did.  Stay cool friends and family and enjoy the end of this great summer!
